What we do
- Cost guides with a calculator that prices your job, from drying through repairs, for your ZIP code.
- A Quote Checker that reads a quote you upload, checks each line we have prices for, and rates the whole quote high, fair or low.
- Insurance guides on what a standard homeowners policy usually covers and how a claim gets paid, sourced to the policy form and state insurance departments.
It's all free. We may be paid when you contact a local company through the site; here's how.
Who runs RestoreCost
Erik Leavell, Editor. Erik decides what RestoreCost publishes and how its cost model works: which price sheets and public datasets go into a range, how a range is built, and what a page can and can't claim. He doesn't hold restoration or insurance credentials, so we don't lean on expertise we don't have: every guide lists the sources behind its figures.
RestoreCost is published by Signal Works, LLC, a Michigan company.
How we work
We research and draft pages with the help of AI tools, check every figure against its source, and Erik Leavell edits and approves what we publish. Our prices come from one cost model, so a guide, its calculator and its charts always agree.
Read our methodology for how the numbers are built and our editorial standards for how pages are checked and corrected.
What we're not
We're not a restoration company, a contractor, an insurer, a public adjuster or a government agency, and we're not affiliated with FEMA or the National Flood Insurance Program. We don't inspect damage, and nothing on the site is legal, insurance or professional advice.
