About RestoreCost

How We Make Money

RestoreCost is free to use. We may be paid when you call a local company through our site, or ask one to call you, and those payments never change the prices we publish.

The short version
  • We're a cost guide published by Signal Works, LLC. No restoration company, insurer or call network owns us, and we're not a restoration company, a contractor, an insurer or a government program.
  • When you call a number on our site or send a request form, the company you reach, or a call network that works with it, may pay us.
  • No one can pay to change our price ranges, our Quote Checker's results or what our guides advise.

When we get paid

  • Phone calls. Where a call button appears on our guides, it connects you with a local company, often through a call network that routes the call to a company serving your area. The network or the company pays us for calls that meet its terms. Every call card has a "How this works" link to this page.
  • Request forms. Where a form appears, you can ask a company to call you back. The company or network named on the form pays us for the request, and the form says who will contact you.
  • Partner links. Where no local company takes calls, we may link to a service that matches homeowners with contractors. It may pay us if you use it.

Call buttons, forms and partner links appear only where a company or partner covers your area. Where none does, we show our free first-hour checklist instead and earn nothing.

What payments don't change

  • Our numbers. Every price range comes from our cost model, built from published price sheets, public labor data and store prices. Our methodology lists every source. No company can pay to change a range or what our Quote Checker flags.
  • Our advice. Our guides tell you to get more than one quote, ask for the daily drying log and check every line, including on quotes from companies that may pay us.
  • What we say about companies. We don't rank, review or vouch for companies, and we never call one the best, licensed or insured. Check a company's license and insurance yourself before you hire it.

What payments do affect

Which guides we write. We choose topics partly by whether companies pay for calls about that kind of damage, along with how many people search for help with it. That's why we started with water damage.

Who you're talking to on a call

The company you reach is independent of RestoreCost. We don't employ its staff, set its prices or guarantee its work, and any agreement you make is between you and that company. A call network may route your call, and the network or the company may record it for quality and billing.

What happens to your phone number and call details is covered in our privacy policy.
